PassTime Completes Certification for Elite Product with T-Mobile Embedded SIM Card

February 8, 2010

PassTime announced today they have completed the certification of their PassTime Elite machine-to-machine (M2M) device. A vehicle telematics platform designed for the automotive finance industry, the PassTime Elite product is among the first M2M solutions to leverage T-Mobile’s unique embedded subscriber identity module (SIM) card.

Unlike traditional plastic SIM cards, T-Mobile’s embedded SIM solution offers smaller size, faster time to market, and the ability to withstand harsh environmental conditions. The chip’s embedded nature provides fast time to market as customers don’t need to provision and manually insert SIM cards. Roughly one-third the size of a dime and more tolerant to extreme environmental conditions like temperature, humidity and vibration, T-Mobile’s silicon-based embedded SIM chips enable developers to design even smaller M2M devices for more stringent applications.

“Incorporating the embedded SIM was a natural progression for our Elite product line. It will drastically increase the environmental operating specifications for temperature and vibration of the device and will open additional business opportunities with this exciting new technology,” said Franco Chirico, executive vice president of manufacturing for PassTime. “Further, with T-Mobile’s nationwide network, we can provide reliable service and connectivity where our customers need it.”

John Horn, national director of M2M for T-Mobile USA, Inc. said, “T-Mobile’s unique embedded SIM chip and nationwide 3G network raises the bar for M2M performance and offers customers, like PassTime, new business opportunities for their innovative M2M solutions.”
